Autumn, a sweet tortoiseshell cat, arrived at the Home's doorstep with no place to call home.

Not only was she herself trying desperately to survive, but she was doing everything she could to care for her litter of adorable one-week-old kittens Pumpkin, Jack, Ghost and Frankie.

But at just one year old, Autumn was barely past kittenhood herself.

The combination of the warmer and longer days starting earlier, triggering cat breeding season, plus the pressure on family budgets to care for pets, has sent the number of kitten and puppy arrivals at the Home soaring to extreme levels. We've not seen numbers like this in almost a decade.

Desexing is the ultimate act of kindness to break the devastating cycle of abandoned and neglected animals—so animals like Autumn and her kittens can have their best shot at finding loving forever homes.

“We desexed over 7,000 animals last year, which is up by 35% on the year before. And there’s no sign of this slowing down.” – Dr Jess, Director of Veterinary Services for The Lost Dogs’ Home

Our devoted team must perform at least 2,500 desexing surgeries this summer just to keep up. But already, our day-to-day operating costs have gone through the roof with inflation. And the huge influx of tiny animals coming to us only adds to the strain on our shelter.

The Home receives NO ongoing government funding. We absolutely depend on donations from generous people like you who love animals as much as we do.

Please donate to help prevent heartbreaking situations where babies are having babies.
