Crucial surgeries for animals like Gatsby have surged 67% in the past year.
Gatsby the gentle Staffordshire Bull Terrier needed not one, but three crucial surgeries when she arrived at the Home. One on her eye because her eyelid was turned inwards causing absolute agony. Then surgery on both her legs because her knees kept painfully dislocating.
We have more animals like Gatsby, with serious conditions, arriving on our doorstep. With the rising cost of living, it’s getting harder for people to keep up with the cost of extensive veterinary care. Families like Gatsby’s are having to make the heartbreaking decision to give up their beloved pets.
While Gatsby’s medical needs are at the higher end of what we see, her treatment and all three surgeries cost almost $10,000 all up. The costs add up for specialised equipment, trained veterinary staff, surgical supplies, anaesthetics, and post-operative care.
“Thanks to our donors, we will do everything possible to help animals like Gatsby find forever homes. Whether that involves a simple procedure or advanced orthopaedic surgeries, we'll do it. But with the cost-of-living crisis and more animals coming to us with medical problems—that is costing us more and more to do.” – Dr Jess, Director of Veterinary Services for The Lost Dogs’ Home
The Lost Dogs’ Home receives NO ongoing government funding. We absolutely depend on donations from generous people like you who love animals as much as we do.
Gatsby’s major surgeries required a long, gruelling recovery period. Thankfully, our loving volunteer foster carer Sophie opened her peaceful home to Gatsby.
“After surgery, Gatsby couldn’t walk for long, so we just did gentle walks in the garden. She loved to lie outside in the sun.” – Sophie, Gatsby’s loving foster carer
The Home will do everything possible to give each animal a happy, healthy life in a loving forever home—no matter their condition. But we can’t do it without you.
Innocent animals like Gatsby have already been forsaken once. We can’t have it happen again.
Please donate now to help fund essential care, like life-changing surgeries for abandoned animals like Gatsby.
